I’m new to Substack, and this is who I am
I’m a 52 year old female (she/her) who has been practicing and teaching yoga since 1995 and 1998 respectively. Yoga has been a life changing practice for me through my life for many reasons, and I am here to share my wisdom with you. I have been blogging about yoga for years because I am passionate about sharing yoga with whoever wants to listen. I firmly believe that if the whole world practiced yoga, we would all know peace. But it starts inside. All I can control is me, so I am here to share what I know in the hopes that you will find more peace and share with those you love.
Why Substack?
I am tired of the Social media game of yelling into the void and hoping someone hears your message. I joined Substack because I am a writer, a thinker, a ponderer, and wanted an outlet for that. I blog about yoga, meditation, journaling and more, so I felt like this was a better outlet for me.
Other platforms (like Instagram and Facebook) always tell me I have gone over their character count. I guess I have a lot to say. When you are passionate about what you do, apparently lots of words come out.
I am here so that I can get out what I have to say in a way that (hopefully) makes sense and is valuable to you, the reader. My wisdom gained over the last almost 30 years of practice is here for you.
Community Oriented
The Yoga Living 50 and Beyond community is a place to show up as yourself, just as you are. When you are over 50, especially in the yoga space, sometimes you may feel like you don’t belong. This community is specifically for people over 50 who are either just starting their yoga journey, are experienced practitioners looking to deepen their practice, or somewhere in between. Is that you?
Yoga is a practice for body, mind, and spirit. It is not about having the “perfect” body, it’s about loving and accepting the body that you have. There is no perfect, there is only what we have, and you are enough. Aging isn’t always kind, but practicing yoga helps you be in the body that you have and feel the best that you can.
If you are part of GenX or older, this is your community for yoga. Let’s age gracefully together!
What’s next?
Free and paid subscribers have access to the same content. While I fully appreciate anyone who wants to get a paid subscription, I want access to my posts to be available to everyone, regardless of your ability to pay. All I ask from you is to read what I write and let me know what you think! Be kind, thoughtful, and share your experiences.
I post twice a week, new posts go up Tuesdays and Saturdays.
If you would like to practice yoga with me on the mat at Purple Room Yoga, I would love to have you in class! My classes are online and are available both live and on demand. These classes can be accessed anywhere there is wifi! Click the button below to wander about my website.
I also send out a weekly newsletter (on Thursdays) to keep you up to date on classes, workshops, retreats, and more! Click the button to subscribe!
Thanks for reading!
I would love to know a bit about who you are! What are your goals with yoga and/or meditation? What are your struggles? Leave a comment!
Hi, I discovered you a few months ago but am just now settling into my own Substack so I feel I can spend time to take care of myself, too. I am 80 years old. When I was in 10th grade, I ordered a book on yoga through Parade magazine and began teaching myself, which is the way I learn best. I have continued my practice off and on since, mostly alone, sometimes in a class. and a three month stint right before the pandemic to learn poses to help heal an injury. I am excited about your program that allows me to take care of my body on my own time. I do tend to lurk, then apply what I've seen to my body and it's issues.
I love that you are offering the same content for paid vs free subscribers. I have yet to turn on paid, but I was thinking along the same lines as you.
