Thank you for this Janine. I've been doing more breathing work after a physical therapist pointed out to me that mine was shallow. Oddly, I mentioned to my PCP a while back that it seemed shallow and she said it was fine. I am glad the PT recognized it and worked with me on belly breathing and box breathing.

Your PCP probably saw that your pulse ox was fine so was unconcerned, but breath is more than just oxygen levels. I'm glad your PT recognized it, as shallow breathing can lead to tightness and pain.

My blood oxygen is usually always good. I actually have costochondritis as well, speaking of tightness and pain. I’m grateful for your post today, because it reinforced how important practicing yoga breathing is when we get older too.

Costochondritis makes breathing painful too. It can reinforce shallow breathing when you are afraid of the pain. I am glad you are in good hands. I treat it successfully with acupuncture. I know a couple of people in Ipswich if you are interested.
