A basic TCM theory book is The Web That Has No Weaver by Ted Kapchuck. You'll learn the basics of how TCM works. Healing with Whole Foods by Paul Pitchfork talks more about TCM and food, from both a TCM and Western perspective. Those are good places to start. You can also see a local holistic nutritionist or acupuncturist/TCM practitioner, but people vary in terms how how much they integrate nutrition into their practices. People who practice Chinese herbal medicine might be more informed than straight acupuncturists. I hope that helps!

Fascinating! Thank you for sharing. Where would you recommend I begin if this is new to me? It’s so interesting and I’d love to learn more about TCM.

So very interesting as I’m in week 2 of recovery of a medical procedure and noticed that my cherished ice water is now a no go. Now it makes sense to me as to why. Thanks so much for posting this article.

So glad you sent this along! I studied TCM at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, but I still learned so much from this!

That's great! I often promote eating according to the TCM diagnosis for my patients. Avoiding cold raw foods for people who run cold, avoiding damp producing foods for people who have a lot of phlegm, moistening foods for people who are dry, etc. I have heard of IIN, I was toying with studying there in the early 2000s, but then kids came along and I didn't have time.

That is great you help people out in that way, too!

My husband and I had a holistic health coaching practice together until he started working for the school. I got pregnant and gave birth while we were still in practice, and that is when we switched to virtual consultations which people had not heard of.
